Julie Hill sadly lost
her battle with cancer on
Saturday, 5th July 2008.
She will be sorely missed

Julie was the director of the Women’s Radio Group charity, which offers training, broadcasting and networking opportunities to women, and especially to socially repressed or otherwise marginalised women. She was passionate about radio and about equality of opportunity for women. |
| Julie worked internationally as a media consultant and trainer, for example giving practical assistance to women as far afield as China in setting up their own radio stations. She was instrumental in developing Women's Radio Group, whose work was singled out for praise in the parliamentary Community Radio and Television debate in 2007: | |

Radio Group in London, which typically works with more than
100 women a year, providing training for women from minority ethnic
groups in disadvantaged communities in the development and production
of radio programmes. The group has reported improved levels of
engagement in learning for women of all ages, and it has improved
skills in communication and media production and raised confidence

She was co-founder of Unknown Voices, a project recording the stories of women who have experienced homelessness and Writing for Radio, a series of online tutorials on writing for radio. Both websites feature Julie's voice in click-to-play audio recordings. Unknown Voices project co-founder Paddy Gormley writes: |

Her work with Women's Radio Group was the focal point of a life devoted to helping others. The Unknown Voices website stands as a living tribute to that work.
