More about Carolyn

Over the years Carolyn has made numerous commercials both in this country and abroad from being a Fairy Liquid Mum to a Flamenco Dancing Rebellious Granny for Cornhill Senior Security Plan.

As well as appearing in countless training films, documentaries and has also worked extensively as a presenter, including presenting the International K Shoe Show at the Café Royal

 

Film

As a young actress Carolyn appeared in many films including A Hard Day's Night in which she was the journalist who interviewed George Harrison.

 

Television

Carolyn made her television debut aged 13 in the first television soap The Grove Family playing the part of Lettuce, and was also in the long running series Compact for five months as Pat Warren, a suicidal kleptomaniac.

 

Theatre

Carolyn made her stage debut aged 12 as The Dream Child in Dear Brutus at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne.

At the age of 19, she stepped into the role of Lucille opposite Vivien Leigh and played the part for the Melbourne season where she received glowing reviews that also appeared in the British press.

She played Nerissa to Vivien Leigh's Portia in The Merchant of Venice and  understudied Vivien Leigh as Viola  in Twelfth Night, playing the part in Buenos Aires.

Her theatre credits also include many prestige theatrical tours and special engagements including:  Theatre Royal Windsor, Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, Liverpool Playhouse, Richmond Theatre, London, Theatre Royal, Bath, Oxford Playhouse, Wimbledon Theatre etc.  Old Time Music Hall, Players Theatre

In recent years Carolyn has been in many performed readings at the OSO Arts Centre appearing with actors such as Gabrielle Lloyd,
Richard O’Callahan, Neel McCaul, Madeleine Newbury, Brian Spink, Edmund Dehn and Daniel Hill to name but a few.

 

Writing

Gile Brandreth wrote this about Carolyn’s most recent play Between Friends, written with Rosalind Adler based on Carolyn's original storyline:

"Funny, touching, beautifully observed – with a brilliant twist
at the end of every scene…a constantly surprising emotional roller-coaster."

Samuel French Ltd who both read and saw the play were unqualified in their praise and hope to publish after a longer run:

" ….a powerful and gripping piece of work….
Aristotle would be envious!"

The play ran for a week and starred Catherine Shipton (Duffy in Casualty) and sold out every night.

 

Carolyn wrote most of the short plays used in A Slice of Life, musical production directed by Andrew C Wadsworth using students from the Guilford School of Acting.

 

Carolyn's quartet of short plays, Sexologically Speaking.. was a complete sell-out for itsrun at the OSO Arts Centre.

 

John Gorrie, Bafta winning director said of The Beautiful Couple that:

"The ending was one of the most exciting he’d seen in the theatre in recent years."

Carolyn Pertwee trained at RADA where she received an honours diploma.  She enjoys considerable success as both actress and writer.  Her work ranges from leading roles with the Old Vic Company and numerous television credits to stage and radio writing, including an Afternoon Play commission from BBC Radio 4

For the Love of Art	BAC Writers' Group New Writing Festival One act black comedy, Carolyn's first play, was performed for a week as part of a season for new writers at the BAC.
Moving On	BAC One of three sitcoms done as a performance reading. It starred Sheila Keith, Vivien Heilbron and David McAlister.  The script so impressed veteran producer John Howard Davies (Fawlty Towers, The Good Life) that he actively encouraged Carolyn to write her second sitcom Rosie and Dud which he wanted to produce for the BBC, it was turned down but later picked up and commissioned by Warner Sisters.
