Carolyn Pertwee enjoys
considerable success as both actress and writer. Her work
ranges from leading roles with the Old
Vic Company and numerous television credits to stage and
radio writing, including an Afternoon Play commission from BBC
Radio 4.
Her short play, The Beautiful Couple, which formed the basis for the Radio 4 commission, was overwhelming voted best play at awl's Anniversary Showcase in November 2003 at the Bullion Room Theatre, Hackney Empire.

After training at RADA, Carolyn joined
the Old
Vic Company and
embarked on their world tour, playing
- Lucille (opposite Vivien
Leigh) in Duel of Angels,
- Nerissa (to Vivien Leigh's Portia)
in The
Merchant of Venice,
- First Fairy in A
Midsummer Night's Dream and
- Clorind in The
Lady of the Camellias.
Following the tour she landed
the part of Pat Warren in Compact,
which led to numerous key roles in prestigious dramas
including Armchair
Theatre and Market in
Honey Lane.
Subsequent theatre credits include many prestigious theatrical
tours and special engagements including:
- Performing in three sketches and reading the part of mother in Paws as part of the Comedy Project at The SohoTheatre in 2006.

Carolyn turned to writing several years ago, while taking
time out to bring up her children. In the relatively short time
she has been writing, she has already had a television play commission,
several pieces read and performed at the Battersea
Arts Centre and Soho Theatre and a play broadcast on Radio
4.
Carolyn's writing credits include:
- A Slice of Life, performed by the post-graduate students of Guildford School of Acting at the New End Theatre in May 2008.
- Between Friends (by Carolyn
Pertwee with Rosalind
Adler) which was read at
awl in
March 2008.
- Stormy Weather, second prize winner in awl's "Another Fine Mess" competition in July 2007.
- The Best Laid Plans, a one-hour comedy for television which was read at awl in January 2007, was performed at The Soho Theatre in March 2007.
- The Stuff of Dreams, first prize winner in awl's "Last Christmas" competition in December 2006.
- Living
on the Edge, performed as part of awl's
"Global Terrorism" competition night in March 2006
and won first prize.
- On Thin Ice, second prize winner
in the "I know a bank / I had no choice" competition
in July 2006.
- Changing Faces, a 45 minute play
for radio, which was read at awl
in October 2005.
- A Very
Private Matter, Carolyn's
first full length play (1999), chosen and performed for the
Wandsworth Arts Festival at the
BAC and subsequently read at
awl
in January 2005
- The Outhouse, performed as part
of awl's
"Crackers" competition night in December 2004 which came third and was recently performed at The Soho Theatre in 2006.
- Double
Image, a short play which was read with The
Beautiful Couple as part of the Wandsworth
Arts Festival 2000 and subsequently read at awl
in March 2004 and had a performed reading at The Soho Theatre in 2006.
- For the Love of Art, a black comedy,
performed as part of the BAC Writers'
Group New Writing Festival and read
at awl
in March 2004
- Moving On, two episodes of a
sitcom, the first of which was given a public reading at the
BAC
- Feeling the Fear, a short story
subsequently adapted into a television drama
- The Beautiful People / The
Beautiful Couple, originally read at awl
and subsequently adapted as a 45 minute play for BBC
Radio 4 (broadcasted in October 2002, starring Julia
McKenzie and Ronald Pickup;
pick of the day in nine different newspapers and subsequently
voted best play at awl's
